German supplier Hella KGaA Hueck & Co. plans to make electronic components for BAIC Motor Group Co. under a joint venture with BAIC parts subsidiary Beijing Hainachuan Automotive Parts Co. in the east China city of Zhenjiang. The plant, a 50-50 joint venture between Hella and Hainachuan, is expected to start production in early 2020, according to an agreement Hella signed with the Zhenjiang city government last week. The factory will initially build control units for vehicle lighting and sunroofs as well as battery management systems for electric vehicles. It will also build electronic components for driver assistance systems. The joint venture will mainly supply BAIC’s electric vehicle assembly plant that is set to begin output in Zhenjiang in 2020. The plant will build electric vehicles for BAIC’s premium brand Arcfox with annual production capacity of 180,000 vehicles. BAIC has hired Canadian supplier Magna International to develop EVs for the Arcfox brand.
